Portrait of a young girl in Peru - 2004. This image was taken in the Huancaye local of the Cuzco (Cusco) region of Peru. The native clothing is typical of Peru and is usually hand made from Alpaca wool - dyed, spun, and woven by family members, by hand. Most people, outside of the large cities, dress in clothing such as this as they go about their normal daily routines. This photo was captured in an outdoor cultural exhibit at a large "tourist stop gift shop" far from any city or town. She we in a small tent like structure indicative of homes of an earlier time. As she was near the door she caught the light coming in from outside but the inside of the tent was quite dark giving the black background (her sister is actually in the shot hehind her but is obscured by the darkness). I love this pose as everyone who sees it immediatly has a feeling of what this young girl is about. Not only what part of the world she inhabits and her ethnicity but mainly her mood. Some say "childlike", others say "impish" or "engaged" or "playful" as well as many other words but pretty much everyone connects with her on some level.

Machu Picchu in front of Huayna Picchu.Machu Picchu, nick names “Lost City of the Inca”, is an Incan citadel high in the Andes Mountains in Peru which was built in the 15th century. It is renowned for its scale, preservation, detailed construction, astronomical alignments and panoramic views. It is thought to have been built as a “vacation” home for one of the Inca emperors of area that now includes Peru and may have been a last refuge of the Inca as they were conquered by the invading Spanish.Huayna Picchu rises over Machu Picchu. The Incas built a trail up the side of the Huayna Picchu and built temples and terraces on its top. The peak of Huayna Picchu is 2,693 metres (8,835 ft) above sea level, or about 260 metres (850 ft) higher than Machu Picchu. The top was said to be the residence for the high priest and the local virgins.
